How to play

Move the mouse or drag a finger — the eel chases it. Keyboard works too: WASD or arrows.

Your hunger bar always drains. Glowing specks refill it. Pink krill are worth triple. Chain snacks for up to ×5 points.

Swim head-first into the sand to hide. Nothing can touch you down there — but while buried you can't eat, and hunger keeps ticking.

A ripple and a dashed line appear on the surface about a second before a puffin plunges straight down. Sidestep or bury yourself.

A red arrow flashes at the edge of the screen. One second later a mackerel rockets across that exact line.

Every hit costs a heart and gives you a couple of seconds of invincibility. Starve or lose all hearts and it's game over.

Sand eels are slim, silvery fish that live in schools over sandy seabeds and are not true eels.
They dive into the sand to hide from predators and to rest.
They're an important food for many seabirds, including puffins, and for larger fish.
